Week Reports 2006
2006-05-02 Week 14, 2006
The penultimate week of the season and we saw fish, weather and water conditions to encompass a whole season. The start of the week was sunny and still with crystal clear water.
2006-04-17 Week13, 2006
There must be relatively few places in the world where one can expect to catch bright silver fish in the same sort of numbers, as one would expect mid-season. With just a few weeks before the close of the season we once again had a good run of ‘chromers’ however as always at this time of the year it is always a mixed sized run of fish.
2006-04-17 Week12, 206
It was a mixed group this week consisting of a group from the UK headed up Eoin ‘rubber legs’ Fairgrieve and an experienced ‘Steelheader’ from the USA. A re-visit for some and a novel experience for others.
2006-03-21 Week 11,2006
Some weeks you just know are going to be good and therefore when I received my first report of the week, from Charles de Gaulle airport no less, with a picture showing 3 Scotsmen cuddled around a bottle of Champagne it was always going to be interesting, regardless of the river conditions.
2006-03-14 Week 10, 2006
A multi-national grouping if ever we saw one. A mix of Spanish, Swiss and Austrians, (with Stefan Haider as the group leader), this must have been the “multi-linguistic” week of the year. At the dinner table there was an interesting mixture of Spanish, French, German and English, with José Benito in the centre, “cause he mastered em all”.
2006-03-06 Week 9, 2006
If last week was almost predictable in the bright still conditions that were faced, this week our Welsh team saw almost everything that Patagonia could throw at them.
2006-03-06 Week 8, 2006
After a week of relative inactivity on the Gallegos our team this week met the challenge with high hopes and expectations. The river rose 15 cm from Saturday to Sunday although the water did not colour.
2006-02-23 Week 7, 2006
This week it was all change. Sadly a complete group pulled out leaving the river in prime condition, full of fish but virtually un-fished. As a result the team were off exploring far and wide with Chile being the destination of choice.
2006-02-14 Week 6, 2006
The floods of the previous week and the still low water conditions prior to that have been replaced by what can only be described as perfect conditions at Las Buiteras. The weather varied between drifting clouds and sunshine with moderate winds.
2006-02-06 Week 5, 2006
The close of the last 2 weeks saw brooding rain clouds, which promised much needed water but never really delivered. This weekend however the conditions really gave us something to think about
2006-02-01 Week 4, 2006
Conditions for the weeks seem to have settled into a routine. The first couple of days are clear skies and high temperatures so it was back to delicate presentation and small flies. By Tuesday however the situation had changed. The water level was up, the winds stronger and the water temperature varied between 8C in the morning and 12C in the evening. By Friday the clouds had gone and the sun was back although now accompanied by a strong downstream wind.
2006-02-01 Week 3, 2006
The week started out with typically nice Patagonian summer weather, although maybe too nice one would say. Water conditions were not ideal, low and warm up to 17 C, and fishing was not easy.
2006-02-01 Week 2, 2006
Another multi-national group although mainly consisting of Scandinavians. A dedicated bunch of Fins, Swedes and a single Norwegian. Bucket and spade holiday weather was the order of the week. Perfect for dispelling the winter blues however not ideal for the fickle minded Sea-Trout.
2006-01-31 Week 1, 2006
A mixed team from Sweden, USA and England was up to the challenge to catch the first Sea Trout of 2006. The team consisted of Buiteras veterans like Tim and Sonya Pask, Magnus Berg and Jokke from Sweden but also 5 Buitreras beginners from England led by groupleader Dave Plummer and of course the friendly Dr Stephen Asher from USA. The famous world-class photographer, Yngve Ask, accompanied the whole party.
