Week 1

Its again the beginning of a new season at Las Buitreras. The staff is getting together again, laughs and lots of memories, stories and friends in our minds, just like a book that’s not only not yet finished, but right at its best part…

Ivar Ulgenes & Rolf Myhre, two men that share a long history with this lodge and the people here… well, they have been coming here for the last 9 years and even named a Pool that many years ago: The Norwegian Bank.

On the 22nd of January we started the 5th week at Las Buitreras with the river low and clear and definitely very technical –meaning with it “quite tough”- Still, it didn’t affect the mood of the group at all, so right away, the first evening we ended up making a big party.

Ok, you (have to) take it easy after landing a bunch of huge King Salmon between 10 and 20 Kg in the King River, and even more if before that you had 534 rainbow trout with an average size of 9 lb in Jurassic Lake in only 3 days of fishing.

Week number 6 at Las Buitreras was without doubt an unusual one. We had a seven anglers group that had on one side Mr. Kerry Hardy –member of mighty Team Ireland, several times with us- followed by his friend Mark, and on the other side a group of 5 friends, first timers at the Gallegos, from Scotland and England.

The 7th week of season 2011 at Las Buitreras was, as every year, the week of our great friends form Scotland. Paul, Jamie, Sandy, John, Jonathan, Innis and James, and two new members of the team for this year: Rob and Frank.

The good news from our good friend Jim Curry bringing a new group to Las Buitreras for Week #8 came in an e-mail some months ago followed later on by a list with the future guests names and all the possibly important information for their upcoming staying as usual.

Illtyd Griffiths is joining us again, as every year since 2001 when he first saw what this river and this operation were about… This great friend (also an AAPGAI instructor also considered by many a legend as a “sewin” fisherman) started bringing partied of anglers to this lodge since then, mainly from his home country, Wales.

A ten anglers group arrived on the 5th of March for week Nr 10 at Las Buitreras Fishing Lodge, from different nationalities, as Americans, British and German. The American team was led by Michael Blakely, a good friend of us who’s been fishing this river for the last few years. In this team we had Bob, Larry, Ed, Daniel, Jeff and Ken.
