RIO GALLEGOS SEA TROUT
Week Reports 2009
Week 10

After a great season with several fantastic weeks, we had to run into a little slower period. It might not all had to do with slower fishing, but just as much due to very relaxed guests.

The river dropped a bit more during the week, and we reached the lowest water level for this season. On top of this we started the week with the hottest weather for this summer in Patagonia, Monday we reached no less than 32C, and no wind at all....so not the easiest conditions for sea trout fishing, but I'm pretty sure a slightly more “active” group (on the river that is) could have done a little more “damage”.Otherwise our group of Swedes, under the command of Magnus Hansson, was active enough, and not at least Friday night, for the first time in our history, everyone showed up in blazers and some even with a neck-tie.

Nils Erik and Måns Tornqvist, father and son, were the most experienced and keen of the group, which also showed on the catch-reports. Måns experimented with different lines, of which he had plenty, while “Nisse” kept to his well known concept, cast retrieve cast retrieve ect ect and it worked alright.Nisse was top-rod of the week, while Måns under his experiments managed to land the biggest fish of the week.

Magnus and Sven-Olof teamed up, and it took Sven Olof ½ hour to land his first fish, but after that it took a while before the next one came on shore, Magnus was busy on the business side of things so he jumped a few sessions, but did get a great 12 lbs'er Sven Olof decided to go to on a trip for the king-salmon, but we'll get back to that in the next report.

Göran and Bertil was both fairly new to flyfishing, so the first days went with some lessons in the art of flycasting, but they picked it up pretty fast, and by the end of the week both of 'em had landed double figure fish. In the evenings Bertil was handing out free counseling, or discussing Icelandic kroners with Göran.

All in all a great week and not at least great company, along with our guides and chef, “Nisse” and Måns, who both are great musicians, played guitar and a rare type of mouth-organ, accompanied by the voice of guide Juan Manuel. Some very enjoyable moments for everybody.

River dropped from -10 to app. -20cm below zero, and temperatures went as high as 17C. As we write river is still dropping, but it has started raining now, and it seems to be moving up the valley. We cross our fingers for a rise in water-level, but it should be coming now along with the autumn.
