RIO GALLEGOS SEA TROUT
Week Reports 2009
Week 05

Anders Holmberg stayed on for another 2 days since he missed a couple of days in the previous week.
Continuing his success, he managed to land no less than 31 fish for his week.

Arriving on Saturday, from days in Jurassic Lake, was the Spurs, who also visited us last year. This year bringing reinforcements, their daughter Sarah and son i law Anders.
Wolfgang had brought a flu from Sweden, and he'd been suffering from that in Jurassic, becoming fresh again upon arrival, Meta went down on the Sunday. But after a couple of days in bed, we soon saw her, fixing our newly planted flowers on the veranda, so, according to Wolfgang, she was definitely getting better.
Last year Meta earned the nickname Meta “paparazzi” Spurs, so this year the camera was kept away in her pocket, except from when Wolfgang or herself, had a fish or there was a great looking sunset.

Anyway, even though it was Anders' first visit, it didn't take him more than 3, yes 3, casts to catch the biggest fish of the week (and his personal record), a 21 lbs “cromer” only 87 cm long but with girth of no less than 56 cm.....
Sarah started a bit slower, but got her share. Amongst the most spectacular experiences must have been the big fish she hooked in pool “75” that just took off, jumped, and unfortunately broke her leader, but wonder if that sight wont follow her a while, at least in her memory?
Casting down here is a little special, and so did both Anders and Sarah feel after trying it, but our guides, Juanito, Diego, Claudio and Frederico, are all great casters and know exactly how to teach the art of flycasting, so everyone picked up quite a few tricks and improved on their technique.

As mentioned before Meta was in bed for a couple of days with a flu, so Wolfgang was on his own, he soon got back up, when Meta became fresh (a little 57% whiskey did help on the coughing) again. Both of them landing some great fish, one to remember would be Meta's  13 lbs from “Raquel”, besides from that Wolfgang enjoyed testing out new prototype rods, and Anders almost had to fight him, to try it out for a day......
It was great for all here at the lodge to see them again, and we hope they'll be back another time.

The river has stabilized around -10cm (-4 inch) on the water mark, it's clearing a little, so now were using smaller flies, beadhead nymphs preferably with rubberlegs, and in neutral colors.
The weather is acting strangely, I can't remember a week with absolutely NO wind at all. Most days the river has been like “a mill pond”, not the easiest conditions to persuade a seatrout to take a fly in bright sunshine.
There is A LOT of fish in the river, and especially the later part of the week they'd been showing in most pools, and the last hour of twilight has been the most productive, using black wolly-buggers.

WE JUST PRAY FOR WIND!!!!!!!!

Last minute report from Friday evening: Sarah and Anders had a ball, the last evening on the river, both landing fish over 16 lbs.....
