RIO GALLEGOS SEA TROUT
Week Reports 2008
Week 12

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally we got the first flod of the season, water started rising Friday and continued Saturday, so we ended up at the +40cm mark. The higest waterleve we've had all season, and what not only we've been needing, but what most fisheries in Argentina had needed......

And did that pay off???? In one day we caught almost as many as last week in total, unfortunately half of the group had to leave us for Jurassic Lake already on the Wednesday, so half the week we've only been fishing 4 rods.
For the first time this year we also saw the mid-size fish, fish from 7-10 lbs, which have been missing until now. But it was mix of everything, fresh silver fish and some more coloured ones, which we belive is fish that's been hanging around the esturary because of the low waterlevel in the river most of the season.

Justin Maxwell Stewart and his gang left Wednesday for Jurassic but all of them got some great hours on the river, and will be back next week.
Zander Kennie, who's on his 4'th. Week with us decided to stay instead of going to Jurassic, was paid back with some serious seatrout and probably some of the best you'll be able to find anywhere. Zanders biggest fish was only 72cm (24Inch) long, but the gurth was incredible 58cm (19½ inch) and the scale said 19 lbs?????
Mark Farrer, who's visited us regularly the lst years, and to whom I promised not to mention anything about him using modern pvc-lines and rubberleg flies on his spliced cane rod, did well again this year. Unfortunately he kindly let Pollo (one of our guides) try his rod in the Kitchen Pool one evening, and after a few “test-casts” Pollo, selfish as he seems to be, hooked and landed a 20 lbs'er. Luckily Mark thought it was a great sight and Pollo was really happy trying to play big fish on a wooden rod.
Damon Roe came from Jurassic, and had to get used to suddenly fish “running-water”, but it didn't take that long before he also landed his biggest seatrout ever. We've all heard the stories of the Scottish Gillies letting the labrador swim across the pool before fishing it? Damon took that a step further! Or maybe it was just an accident that a sheep came swimming down river, and deliberately bumped into Damon so he basicly had a “sheep-rodeo” down the pool, we don't know for sure, and we think it'll remain one of many mysteries of Patagonia.
Martin Lee also had to adapt to the river which was very different from what he's used to, but I'm sure Martin will remember this trip, because it'll be difficult to catch a bigger seatrout than Martin did anywhere else, and just to put it into perspective, his memorable morning include next to a 24.2 lbs'er also a 16½ and an 11 lbs'er. That's what you could call, a great mornings fishing or??????

River came up Saturday, but started to drop slowly on the Sunday and continued to drop until Tuesday, where it rose again with another 15 cm, and dropped from there the rest of the week.
Water was very cold at times but due to some sunshine, it rose during the day, water temperatures was from 6-11C and water level from +40 to -5.

Now it's bigger flies, wolly-bugger, Egg sucking leech and larger Yuk Bug's  still Intermediate lines eventhough we had some succes with slow sinking lines. Light double handed rods are in play, but you will get along with a heavier singelhanded.
