Finally! Finally the river rose, not a lot but just enough to bring it back to what we call normal water-level. Unfortunately it didn't rise until Wednesday, but it's been what we needed for the last few weeks.
Start of the week was reasonably slow, due to the low water, but also some pretty heavy winds, which made it hard to cover what was left of the river......
Team Finland with Harri and Jari, had a blazing start Harri landed 3 the first day, while his team buddy Jari had to adjust to the sligtly different conditions from his home rivers before he caught the technique.
Team Sweden who was Wolfgang and Meta “paparazzi” Spors felt the conditions beeing tougher than the others, but Wolfgang got it going after he experimented with a few rods and lines. Meta on the other hand, had a damaged wrist and spent quiet a lot of time with her camera. So you could really never know when her “extended nose” poked out from somewhere.
The last team was a mix between a Dane and an Englishman, Anders and Raymond. They seemed like magnets to the big fish in the river. Anders started pretty slow, but so did Raymond. Mostly, we think, because they argued to much. Anders landed the the 3 biggest fish of the week, while Raymond followed after he also had his tackle sorted out.
One could say the week was split in two halfs, and they were as night and day. The first 4 days with low water and the last two with higher water. We landed more than 50% of the fish on the last two days, which just prooves that all we needed was a bit of water. Another strange thing happened this week, which is rarely seen, there were no special pool or beat fishing better than others, therefor the Top pool was split between 6 or 7 different ones, and all spread out on the river from top to buttom.
Waterlevel started out at -25 cm and rose to -5 cm for thereafter again to drop slowly to -12 cm, this all happened Wednesday, so as said earlier Thursday and Friday the fish really woke up.
Temperatures of the river was between 8-15 C.
Fishing singelhanded rods and intermediate lines prooved the best, eventhough the water came up, it's not what we call high water, and therefor no need for doublehanded rods. Flies was again small nymphs like Prince ect. But later in the week, bigger Nymphs like Bitch-creek and Yuk Bug's prooved themselves to be great.
