RIO GALLEGOS SEA TROUT
Week Reports 2008
Week 03

A busy week it was, eventhough we only had six rods fishing on a regular basis, we also had two film crews, one from Sweden and one from the US. So it was indeed a multi national week, with Swedes, Americans, Irish and German.

The river started out at normal waterlevel, what we refer to as 0 on our water-gauge, but kept dropping throughout the week, ending up at -20cm below normal.
That didn't seem to affect the fish tough, we had fresh runs of fish entering the pools every day, as they were running fast up the river, some did stay in the faster water.
At the start of the week, due to the higher water level, bigger flies lige wolly-buggers ect. was effective, but as the water dropped smaller nymphs was the weapon.
With low and clear water singlehanded rods are the most effective, simply because of smoother presentation of fly and not atleast fly line. Recommended rods are 9'-10' for a line 7-8 or 8-9, if one prefer to fish double handedrods lighter models from 12' to 13' 8/9 would be the choise.
Lines should either be intermediate or float with intermediate-tip (or sink-tip), longer leaders of 10'- 15'
tippet strenght 12-15lbs.
